Product I am recommending:  Wobble Chair Do you, like me, have kids that are going back to school this week?  If so, equip them for postural success by getting them a wobble chair to do their online classes.  More than ever before, the home work space has become a true concern for parents and children.  I love this product that allows kids to burn energy while they stay in front of a screen.  So far, I have seen my kids far more focused, engaged and happy when using this product during their zoom classes.  The stools come in a few different sizes based upon the size of your child.  To fit them correctly, measure the distance from the floor to their knee.  This is the ideal height of the stool that works best for them.  The idea of this product is chiropractic approved because it encourages an active sitting position and increased blood flow into the spine. Wood project I am building: Tablet Stand To eliminate my kids looking down at their tablets for school I built them simple wooden stands that hold their devices upright.  I got the idea on etsy for $19 each (see link) but was able to create them for free using some scrap wood and wood glue in the garage.  This project also doubles to hold books and magazines vertically for reading. What does turning inward really mean? Turning inward is a skill we must learn to tap into our truest selves, to better understand our own wants and desires. Listening to our inner being’s allows us to understand the essence of who we really are. Our inner being knows no limits, and assists us in knowing our true identity. Listening to our inner selves can enable us to love and nurture more, and assist you to develop self-love, self-confidence, clarity, and add harmony to our daily lives.  Truly turning inward isn’t something that comes easy to most. It takes time and energy to understand ourselves, and that’s okay. We have to learn that fulfilling our inner desires is not a selfish trait, it is simply one that is necessary to live a harmonious and joyful life. Selfishness is my biggest fear, so turning inward is something that never came naturally to me. I felt as though others, and productivity had to come before me or I was living selfishly. The truth is I was living selfishly. I was pouring from an empty cup, and I couldn’t give my best to those around me. I had to make a commitment to myself and others that I was going to trust myself and my intuition. I was going to work to fill my cup so I could give to others generously. This was not an easy task. I had to learn to trust that my inner being was always guiding me down the path and the life that I wanted. I had to unlearn the expectations that I had placed on myself and trust that I knew what I was doing.  Connecting with your inner self means staying grounded and always remembering to listen to your intuition. Meditation is my personal favorite way to allow for moments of clarity and peace to come to me. Meditation is a simple way to connect with our inner being and provide a moment of self care by relaxing and grounding our bodies. I challenge you all to work on doing a guided meditation, and take a few minutes a day to reconnect with your inner self and really ask yourselves: What do I want out of today?    -Myriah 

Documentary I am watching: 100 Meters With my current aspirations of doing a triathlon, when one becomes available, I have been drawn to consuming more content around the subject.  This documentary, that uses subtitles, on Netflix is fantastic!  Funny, heartwarming and inspiring, 100 Meters tells the story of a middle aged father who is diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  In an effort to use his body while he is still capable, he decides to attempt an Iron Man.  Along the way his father-in-law, whom he despises, becomes his training coach.  If you are looking for a reminder to "seize the day" then give this a watch! Exercise equipment I am using: LED Safety Lights Have you had trouble getting your exercise in during the middle of the day currently due to the heat?  If so, have you moved your workouts to the early morning or in the evening?  If you answered "yes" again, then you may want to make the $12 investment in a set of clip-on safety lights! These come with the option to have a sustained bright light or two different flashing versions.  Recently, I clipped one on the back of my hat and one on my shoe in order to alert drivers ahead and behind me of my presence on the road.  Get out and get your movement in while it is dark, but do it in a safe way! Book I am listening to: The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks Have you ever reached a point in your life where you experienced more success in your relationships, financial status, physical health or spirituality than you ever have before.  Shortly after that moment you freak out and do something to bring you back to your old level?  Personally, I have done this many times and in many different categories of my life.  In hopes of shedding light on this subject and attempting to stay in a sustained, new higher level I started listening to this book.  Hendricks, discusses the concept of "upper limiting" ourselves due to our lack of truly stepping into our actual limitless capacity.  If you feel like you keep bumping up against your own glass ceiling, give this one a listen! Family fun idea I am spreading: Ice Blocking Are you bored of doing the same stuff over and over again since COVID?  Got $4? Then you can have the time of your life doing ice blocking!  Go to your local grocery store (I suggest calling ahead to confirm they have blocks in stock) in the ice section and grab the large blocks of ice (cost = $3.99). Bring a small towel to stack on top of the block so your body doesn't slip off easily.  Next, head to the closest grass hill.  We went directly to Kate Sessions Park near Pacific Beach.  Walk to the top of the hill, sit on the towel on top of the block and slide down the hill as fast as you can!  Boom!  This is also a great workout because you will inherently get to walk back up the hill a ton of times.  Fun for hours! Exercise equipment I am using: Polarized Sports Sunglasses On a recent bike ride I learned the importance of eye protection.  After closely following my riding partner down a large hill, my eyes were tearing up so badly I could barely see due to the wind.  I also experienced a decent size piece of gravel rickoshe right off my forehead.  After the ride I ordered a pair of polarized, non-frame sunglasses.  The ones I chose were about twenty bucks.  The lack of a frame helps to avoid blind spots when looking quickly over your shoulder when attempting to avoid oncoming cars.  If you are looking for a further upgrade, I also learned of a type of lens called photochromic which become lighter or darker based upon the ambient light you are currently riding through.  Definitely cool!  These cost a bit more, but might be worth the investment if you plan on doing long events. Exercise equipment I am trying: Peloton This weekend I had my first Peloton experience at my brothers house.  What a fun way to exercise!  If you have never heard of this revolutionary type of stationary bicycle it combines remote coaching as if you are in a spin studio with custom music on a large touch screen.  Tons of options, lots of high energy classes and a choice to use their beautiful videos of the countryside to ride your bicycle virtually through.  These are all a part of the Peloton experience.  Classes also include different lengths of time, different coaches as well as weight lifting, yoga, and many more! If you are looking for an at home way to get a great workout in and you like to compete/connect with people from around the world, give this a shot! Snack I am binge eating: Chili Roasted Pistachios Do you like spicy snacks?  If so, you have to try this one out!  This product sells at Costco in bulk or at general grocery stores as well.  These are great for road trips, beach outings or bag lunches.  Enjoy! As soon as we develop into childhood from babies, human development is centered around one's self purpose. As a child, it is to be an observational learner. This sense of purpose changes as we hit adolescence, where we truly seek a mentor for the passions that create excitement in the adolescent life. When we reach the age of a young adult, our purpose begins to form around what identity we see ourselves as and how the world around us see’s our identity. From adulthood to our last days, our purpose becomes how to continue to contribute to the community we care about and live the best days of being a mentor. Throughout each stage of seeking purpose, we will inevitably run into decisions that will be the driving factor to being successful achieving our purpose. Mentors are there to help in your decision making process to allow you to grow with the foundation of experience from somebody that is a little further along in your goals than you are.  We can look at this like Isaac Newton’s idea of gravity and planetary orbit was far fetched and not accepted during his discovery. Imagine if his studies were never accepted by society and mankind had to continually discover why objects fell. The future Isaac Newton’s would continually be dismissed and our development of knowledge would be stunted. Regarding my personal career, I have always had a direct or indirect mentor that I have learned from. Starting in undergrad, I was lucky to find a mentor to help guide my study habits to the level required for university. He had introduced me to another mentor that was more Aligned with my career. My second mentor had shown me the path he was taking to get into grad school, and I would not have ever applied to the grad school I currently attend without him making me realize I was capable of a graduate program. Tracking tool I am using: Garmin 910XT Triathlon Watch This week a fellow Aligned Life'er generously gifted me with a way to track my progress towards my exercise goals in the form of a triathlon watch (Thanks Kevin!).  By tracking a number of statistics I am hoping to gain insight as to how to improve my aerobic capacity and accordingly improve my times for each of the three disciplines of triathlon.  I am curious if there are areas of YOUR life that you are looking to improve that could benefit from tracking your results?  If so, could you use a technology or strategy to give your real time data that would change your outcome?  If so, take action this week to acquire that tool and work on implementing the use of it to help you get further, faster!  Remember, "what gets tracked gets measured and what gets measured gets done!" Book I am reading: Daniel's Running Formula Asking the right questions when it comes to looking at data makes all the difference in helping to get towards your goals.  This book has helped me determine what are the right questions to ask in regards to running.  Concepts such as VO2 MAX, cadence and many more are critical in understanding how your body is responding to the stress of running over time.  If you are curious about how to set up a program for yourself in order to accomplish a certain running distance (1 mile, 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon, etc.) this book is a fantastic reference! " ~ Jack Daniels PhD A lot of people have asked why I am putting energy towards triathlon knowing that I am unlikely to "win" and far more likely to cause suffering during training and races.  My answer is that I am looking to change my mind.  I desire to learn patience, discipline and how to use metrics to drive performance.  I would then like to use those same traits and translate them into all the other areas of my life; finances, relationships, business, spirituality, etc.  My hope is that I can use my body as a teaching tool.  I believe that this is one of the foundational reasons why our spirits were given a physical body to experience

Financial software I am using: TurboTax It's tax time!  Haha.  I was trying to make that sound exciting.  If you are like me, and you are not a big fan of this yearly challenge, then I recommend using TurboTax to make it a bit easier to tolerate.  If you are a do-it-yourself type of person and you don't have a wide variety of income sources, expenses and distributions, this cost effective and user friendly software comes in handy.  This program can run you anywhere from $0 all the way up to $120 if you own your own business.  My wife and I have done our personal taxes using TurboTax for the last seven years and have had a positive experience.  Take a breath, get a big ass cup of coffee and get'er done!
