Experience I am raving about:  Bioluminesence in San Diego If you are looking for something to do at night during the shelter in place I strongly recommend taking a drive over to the beach to check out this spectacular natural occurrence.  During the "red tide" in which a specific type of algae bloom the water, especially inside a crashing wave, appears to glow an unearthly blue/green color!  We also found that doing the moon walk (think Michael Jackson) or stepping heavily in the area where the water is very shallow, lights up under your feet.  I have lived in San Diego for 40 years and this was one of my favorite experiences yet.  If you are concerned about being around other people you can still view this amazing site from you car.  Take a look, you will not be disappointed! Documentary I am watching:  The Barkley Marathons Would you be crazy enough to enter a race in the back country of Tennessee that has been running for 25 years with only 10 actual finishers?  What if I told you that it cost $1.60 for your entry fee, plus a license plate from your home town?  What if you knew that the race consisted of five loops around a 20 mile course including 60,000 feet of elevation gain (if you did all five loops)?  Lastly, the cutoff time is 60 hours.  Would you still be game?  If you are saying, "hell no" I don't blame you.  If you think this sounds like a very entertaining and inspiring documentary, you would be correct. Thought that is consuming me:  Co-Morbidities and Urgency It is my belief, that in our culture it has become so common for people to be sick with lifestyle diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity the urgency to get healthy has been lost.  These problems are seen as issues to be dealt with only in the future.  However, I now believe that in the wake of COVID-19, the world has been triggered to wake up to the reality that health and wellness must be a priority always.  This is due to the fact that co-morbidities are now being seen as an immediate sign of having a target on your back for disease and potential death.  It is my hope, that the consciousness of our communities will be changed in a very positive way.  In a direction that makes healthy lifestyle choices a fundamental ingredient woven into the fabric of our society.  If you or a loved one requires support, guidance, or inspiration please reach out to me at and I will assist in any way I can. Show I am watching: Oprah Winfrey's Super Soul Sunday WOW!  I am so fired up on this program created by Oprah.  If you have ever wanted to get an in depth look into the world's best thought leaders in regards to spirituality, this is a gold mine!  Oprah interviews everyone from Common, Eckhart Tolle, Dr. Dean Ornish, Malcom Gladwell and so many more.  My favorites so far have been Michael Singer and Michael Beckwith.  I have linked the episode with Beckwith above.  Take out a piece of paper and get ready to take a ton of notes! Exercise support I am using:  Rymora Calf Compression Sleeves Since the pools have been closed I have switched my attention to running and biking.  When it comes to running I have been struggling with residual nerve damage in my left calf from a previous low back disc herniation.  Accordingly, severe cramping in my lower leg has, on more than one occasion, forced me to stop a training run.  On the advice from a colleague I decided to try using compression sleeves to see if it would change my performance.  So far, I can happily report that things appear to be much improved!  I have not had to stop during a run since the initiation of wearing the sleeves.  If you are having difficulty during exercise of any kind due to muscular spasm, cramping or stiffness, you may want to give compression gear a shot.  Besides the additional support they provide, an increase in proprioception (your body's position awareness) may be why a change in symptoms and function occur. Book I am listening to: Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing The Uncommon by Dr. Joe Dispenza After reading some of Dr. Dispenza's work a few years ago, I was reminded by a fellow Align Lifer (Thanks Sue!) that he had written a couple of new books.  In this one, the author discusses how our mind has a powerful influence over our physical health.  He also focuses on how our past experiences can distort our mind and keep us trapped in old behaviors leading to the same poor outcomes.  If you have found yourself in a rut and you can't get out, grab a copy immediately and give it a listen/read! Quote I am loving: "The body does not know the difference between an emotion created by an experience you are having in the outside environment and an experience you are creating internally"  ~ Dr. Joe Dispenza from "Becoming Supernatural" This concept has enormous implications when it comes to healing the physical body as well as creating the life you desire to live.  If you can focus your awareness on the outcome you desire, increase your emotion around it and allow your body to feel as if it has already happened, you can create just about anything.  The key to this process is repetition and feeling.  A daily meditation practice could be integral in achieving this result! --- Have a kick ass week everyone! Documentary I am watching: Heal If you have Netflix and you are open minded about discussing some of the deeper issues that often are the true cause of health problems for people, give this documentary a watch!  Chiropractors, spiritual leaders, organic chemists and physicists talk about their understanding of how healing occurs through focusing on foundational aspects of health.  Proper nutrition, eliminating mental and emotional stress, and working to improve the environment the body lives in gives us a real chance to heal from all types of disease.  Deepak Chopra (author of "The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success"), Bruce Lipton (author of "Biology of Belief"), and Dr. Joe Dispenza (chiropractor and author of "Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself") all discuss their personal health journeys and how they have moved away from traditional medicine. A Second Documentary I am watching: Iron Cowboy Have you been struggling to stay on your exercise regiment this past week?  If you would like a truly inspiring story to get you back on track give this hour long documentary a watch.  In this film, the "Iron Cowboy", an ironman athlete, decides to raise money for charity by committing to doing one ironman race per day for 50 days in 50 different states.  They call it the 50.50.50.  Yes, you read that correctly

Jurek, a 7x champion of the grueling Western States 100 mile ultra marathon is a plant based beast.  His training regiment, mindset towards pain and ability to endure is unbelievable.  Since I cannot swim right now due to the pools being closed, I have been running more and attempting to cultivate a similar approach.  If you are looking to stretch your thinking on what is possible for your life in any category pick up a copy of this one.
