Method I am employing: MELT Method This week we had a number of Aligned Life Community members with the condition plantar fasciitis.  This is caused by inflammation occurring at the bottom of the foot.  Having personally struggled with this type of problem during my triathlon training I have utilized the MELT method to help.  This involves using a ball (preferably something reasonably hard like a lacrosse ball) and pressing into the tissues from the heel into the forefoot.  For all the details on how to utilize this technique, take a look at the above-linked video.  I believe you will be shocked at how much better your feet feel after just a few minutes of doing this method! Hack I am loving: Post Valentines Day Card Purchase Some of you may like this one and some of you may hate it

Action I am encouraging: Mental Health Sticky Notes On The White Board The month of February at Aligned Life is all about improving our mental health and our awareness of what helps to stabilize our thoughts when we experience challenges.  To help give suggestions as to effective strategies for improving one's mental health we have posted a whiteboard in front of the adjustment area.  I am encouraging everyone who would like to participate to take a sticky note from the whiteboard, write down what you do to improve your mindset, and post it on the board!  My hope for this project is to encourage some creativity and a set of best practices for how to create a resilient mind in a turbulent time! Book I am re-reading: Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris This book is my all-time favorite bathroom book!  This means that it sits by the toilet and is read while using the facilities.  The reason why this is the perfect environment for this book is due to its short (just a couple of pages) chapters.  Each chapter includes the highlights from an interview between Ferris and a person of interest.  Ferris asked two hundred people the same set of questions and attempted to see if there were overlaps between their answers.  The information found in this book is often profound, funny, inspiring, and easy to digest.  Like I said, perfect for a bathroom break! Quote I am repeating: "Losers have goals, winners have systems." ~ Tim Ferris in Tools of Titans The final step to any goal-setting session in my opinion must be the creation of systems that will help support the goals.  Otherwise, all you have created is a list of wants.  This leaves a tremendous amount of room for error and encourages a lack of follow-through which can often lead people towards a negative feedback loop.  Make sure that you time block your schedule to ensure that you are working towards your objectives each week and ask yourself the following question; "What system would I need to create in order for my goals to be achieved easily?" Have a kick ass week everyone! In Health, Dr. Devin Shea, DC

Video I am recommending: 2022 Goal Setting Workshop  If you were unable to attend our Goal Setting Workshop we held in the office last week, don't worry!  We have your back.  Check out the link above to gain massive clarity on your vision for the next year.  In the video, I lay out exactly what I did for myself, my family and my team to help us move directly towards our goals for 2022.  If you want to step into your potential and make an impact DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY! Clarity is the greatest accelerant to your goals. Questions I am pondering: Top 7 Questions To Make This Your Healthiest Year Ever How can I replace a toxic part of my lifestyle with purity? How can I replace a deficiency in my lifestyle with sufficiency? Who can become my coach in a part of my health I am struggling with? What habit can I commit to that will help me become the person I want to be? What is the most important thing I can improve in my health that will make all other aspects of my health easier or insignificant? What community/group can I join that will help make these changes fun? How would I need to behave if I were to complete all of my health changes in one tenth the time? Quote I am loving: "Don't expect different results when your habits are the same." ~ UnknownBottom line is, you are what you do.  If you want to get different results you must do things differently.  This week, attempt to identify what skills you need to obtain to push you over the top of your goals.  Then ask yourself, "what habit can I implement today that will ensure my success?".  Remember, you are worth it!  If you slip up periodically, stop the voice in your head that will shame you.  The most successful people on planet earth are not perfect.  They are just willing to start their habits again and again and again.  You are playing an infinite game.  Fight on! Have a kick ass week everyone! In Health, Dr. Devin Shea, DC

Product line I am selling: Hyperice Hypervolt 2.0 and Go You all know that I am not into gimmicks or fad based health products.  I am interested in real results and improving your health and durability.  Over the past 18 months I have been personally using the Hypervolt 2.0 Percussion Handheld Massage devices.  I credit these devices, my chiropractor, my massage therapist and my foam roller in helping me complete the 1/2 Ironman race last year.  I have also been using these devices on many of our patients in the office for the last three months.  An overwhelming majority of you have expressed enjoyment with using this product and believe in it's effectiveness.  Accordingly, I am proud to announce that Aligned Life Chiropractic and Wellness is now an official retailer of the Hyperice product line!  In order to maintain congruence with our strict standards I have chosen to only carry two of their products.  The Hypervolt 2.0, the same product we use in the office and the Go, the home use version.  We have priced matched these products and will be providing a Youtube video link that shows how to use these devices in a safe, effective and productive way.  The 2.0 is being sold for $299 plus tax and the Go for $159 plus tax currently.  If you are interested in giving these a test drive, or purchasing one to help you stay healthy this year, please check them out in the clinic! Planner I am using: No Limits 2022 Planner by Bright Beta Co. I received this planner from one of the Aligned Life Community members (thanks Aaron!) and am so excited to implement using it this year.  The planner helps to focus you on your goals, set aside directed time to work on them and helps you maintain accountability.  I especially like the spaces available to track your progress towards goal achievement, identifying your north star and the habit tracker.  If you are looking for an affordable and effective tool that will help you create your best year yet, give this one a look! Quote I am pondering: "Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act.  There is no other route to success." ~ Pablo Picasso If you have not already created your goals for 2022, don't stress, Aligned Life has got your back!  In two days, Thursday the 13th

Practice I am incorporating: System Creation For "The Hole In Your Boat" Have you ever heard the expression, "hole in your boat" when describing a behavior, system, or area of your home or business that is literally sinking your performance?  Think about all of the different areas of your home or work space.  Now think about the one that is the most disorganized.  The one that gives you the most anxiety if your friends were to ever show up unannounced.  That area, and more importantly the lack of organization or systematizing, is what could get in the way of you reaching your goals in 2022!  This week I went through my home and tried to really take a hard look at the areas where we lacked systems.  For example, I found we did not have a great way to organize the mail effectively.  After 30 minutes of deliberate time, a new spot was created to store the inbound letters, identify where they could be stored after use and a spot for pending items.   Boom!  Haha (simple pleasures

Gift I am enjoying: Literati This Christmas, my team from Aligned Life, blessed me with a very unique gift.  A subscription to an online book club called Literati.  This subscription includes fantastic titles as well as access to an online community of people, including celebrities, visionaries and authors to discuss the content in detail.  The way it works goes like this; select a book of your choice, go onto their app and join the appropriate book club and then attend virtual conversations led by key influencers in the space most represented by the book.   The objective is to gain a deep understanding of the core messages and to create interesting conversations about topics that are most important to you.  If this sounds like something you or a loved one would enjoy, click on the link above to check it out for yourself! List I am making: My 2021 Reading List Here is a list of the books I read this year.  The ones that have been starred I would recommend checking out! The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle * The War of Art by Steven Pressfield The Effective Executive by Peter Drucker The Common Path to Uncommon Success by John Lee Dumas How To Consciously Design Your Ideal Future by Benjamin Hardy You Are An Ironman by Jacques Steinberg Think Again by Adam Grant Iron Cowboy - Redefine Impossible by James Lawrence 12 Rules For Life by Jordan Peterson * Confessions of The Pricing Man by Hermann Simon The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter * Never Split The Difference by Chris Voss Sapians by Yuval Noah Harari Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill * Breath by James Nestor * Great By Choice by Jim Collins and Morten T. Hansen * Be Here Now by Ram Dass * Rental Property Investing by Brandon Turner Scaling Up by Verne Harnish * My favorite book this year, the one that made the biggest impact on the way I make decisions, was The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter.  I believe that anyone can benefit from reading this title and taking to heart the key message.  If you have any questions about the other books or would like a personal book recommendation I would be happy to help you! Quote I am loving: "It is better to know one book intimately than a hundred superficially." ~ Donna Tartt One of my goals for 2022 is

Lower back exercise I am recommending: Exercise Ball Back Extension Have you been struggling with periodic episodes of lower back pain that force you to take time off your regular exercise routine?  If so, please continue reading!  Lately, I have been doing many more garage weight lifting sessions as a part of my training.  One component that I have been finding very helpful has been core strengthening for my lower back.  An often missed aspect of this type of fitness are the lower back extensor muscles.  These are the muscles that run along the sides of the spine in the lower back and serve to create stability when going from sit to stand and lifting heavy objects.  To make yourself more injury resistant I recommend placing an exercise ball under your stomach, wedge your feet up against a wall, place your hands behind your head and slowly bring your chest up.  Hold this contraction for 3 seconds and then descend slowly.  For great results, do 3 sets of 10 repetitions twice a week.  Keep in mind, as with any exercise you have not done before, you may experience soreness in your lower back.  For greater clarity on this movement, check out the video linked above! Event I am encouraging: Toys For Tots Program For the last 7 years our office has been a drop off location for the Toys For Tots program.  If you are unfamiliar with this charity, this program provides gifts for the holiday season to military families in need.  We will be accepting NEW and UNWRAPPED gifts at the office until December 17th.  If you are unable to make it into the Aligned Life facility, but still want to contribute, I recommend using Amazon to ship a gift directly to the office at the following address; 11770 Bernardo Plaza Ct. Suite 351 San Diego, CA 92128.  As always, I am grateful for your donations and am proud of our Aligned Life family for being a part of creating a more loving community! Quote I am loving: "Love the giver more than the gift" ~ Brigham Young This holiday season I would like to invite you to remember that the relationships with our loved ones, friends, neighbors and even strangers are the most important aspect of the next few weeks.  This goes against the traditional focus on material goods and the collection of things.  I believe that the "magic" of this time of year is due to the giving and receiving

Event I am promoting: Holiday Season Bingo Year after year I have noticed that my patients health often takes a back seat during the holidays.  In an attempt to keep our patients immune system and energy up through the end of the year, Aligned Life Wellness is offering a fun bingo game!  Each square on the bingo board will ask you to take an action that will support your health over the next month.  There will be three winners of the game who will be given either a 30 minute massage, a 60 minute massage, or the grand prize of a 90 minute massage.  To play, pick up a bingo card in the office or we can send you one via email.  This game will be done on the honor system.  To cover a space, take the action that is written on the card.  To be entered in the drawing for the 30 minute massage create a horizontal or vertical line across the card.  To be entered in the 60 minute massage make a diagonal line.  And to be entered in the grand prize drawing, cover the entire board.  The drawing will take place in the first week of January, 2022.  Let's stay healthy and use December as a springboard into your healthiest year yet! Second event I am promoting: 2022 Goal Setting Workshop Over the last fifteen years I have progressively spent more time preparing for the start of each year.  This preparation has provided clarity and excitement for the year ahead.  On Thursday, January 13th at 6 pm I will be leading a 2022 Goal Setting Workshop at Aligned Life Wellness.  This event will walk you through how to set goals in each of the key domains of your life.  It will also encourage you to set aside deliberate time to determine exactly what you want to happen for your life and health.  I have long said that it is not determining how to get to a goal that is the hard part, it is what you want your goals to be that is the most challenging.  This event will massively influence how your year will transpire.  Your life is too important to miss out on a chance to be the creator of your destiny!  This event costs $5 per person and we are donating %100 of the proceeds to our Q1 charity of choice.  To let us know you would like to

Event I am encouraging: Aligned Life Wellness Canned Food Drive We are down to the wire Aligned Life Community!  To everyone who has already donated to our canned food drive this year, thank you so much for your contribution.  To everyone who has not had a chance yet, we are running out of time.  Thursday, Nov 18th is the last day we collect non-expired canned goods at the office in preparation to donate them to the San Diego Food Bank.  We hit 263 lbs. last year and are hoping to give over 300 lbs. this year so we need all hands on deck!  Thanks for your consideration! Group I am recommending:  Mastermind Group This past weekend I attended another mastermind with my older brother and two close friends.  We have been meeting once a quarter to discuss all aspects of our lives.  The goal of the group is to get honest and pertinent feedback on all of life's big questions (finances, relationships, goals, how to prioritize your time, etc

Financial strategy I am using: Cash For Eating and Drinking In an effort to tighten the reins on my financial life and move some of our resources into other areas, my wife and I have decided to go back to carrying cash.  We have decided to cut 20% from our typical monthly expenditure on eating and drinking.  To set this up successfully we track all of our spending on Quicken.  We then took out 80% of what we normally spend in a month and divided it evenly between us.  There are a few additional benefits to using cash; 1) when it is gone it is gone for the month. 2) When you are spending cash you can eliminate the guilt often felt because you know that it has been allocated for that type of expense.  3) You inherently become aware of your spending habits and eliminate the "just put it on the card" mindset.  If you are looking to become more free, by becoming more disciplined in your financial life, this is a great strategy to try!  For more information on how to do this, check out Dave Ramsey's reference called The Total Money Makeover. Book I am hearing: Great By Choice by Jim Collins and Morten Hansen Authors of "Good To Great" and "Built To Last", this writing consists of research done on companies that, despite experiencing the same uncertainty, chaos and luck of other companies in the marketplace, thrived.  The easy to understand, focused and research backed approach to running companies during trying times is a great reference for anyone looking to create an enduring entity! Quote I am saying: "Regardless of the external environment the most productive thing you can do is manage yourself." ~ Devin Shea This weekend I took a friend of mine to La Jolla Cove for a swim.  He had not done ocean swimming before and I was excited to share what I had learned over the past two years with him.  Unfortunately, when we arrived we saw that the surf was really big (6-8 foot swells).  As someone who had grown up in San Diego surfing, I knew he could handle himself in the water, so I decided he would be ok.  I knew that the hardest part would be the first 2 minutes of trying to get out past the big waves.  The initial shock of the cold water, the inability to see in the water, the big waves crashing and your
