Podcast I am hearing: The Less Doing Podcast by Ari Meisel Do you have 5-10 min?  Would you be interested in learning a ton of quality personal and business principles?  Meisel is a business coach that has been producing a podcast that turns out short episodes that are packed with solid content.  I love the short nature of these segments as well as the overarching theme of creating redundancy and replaceability in a business. Book I am hearing: The Effective Executive by Peter Drucker Lately I have been looking to increase my productivity without increasing the amount of time it takes to get the work done.  To that end, I picked up the Audible version of The Effective Executive.  Drucker believes that becoming effective is a learned behavior and is a collaboration of choosing one thing to focus on, time blocking, eliminating pointless meetings, making swift decisions and remaining disciplined.   This book was written in the 1950's however remains a classic for anyone looking to increase their contribution to an organization. Quote I am loving: "It is more productive to convert an opportunity into results than to solve a problem, which only restores the equilibrium of yesterday. " ~ Peter Drucker in The Effective Executive Do you ever feel like you don't have time to actually work on the things that will push you in the direction you want to go? Are you stuck just barely getting the grunt work done?  I believe this is a common problem that I have faced over my professional career.  Until you can decide to make one thing a priority and refuse to start anything else before that one thing is accomplished, you will always feel inhibited.  Identify what you want to achieve, block out the time to get it done and stop everything else you normally do until it is accomplished! --- Have a kick ass week everyone! Garden I am planting:  Side Yard Planter Boxes Do you have a green thumb?  Or, would you like a great project for your kids?  Have you noticed that Spring is finally here?  This week my boys and I replanted the planter boxes on the side of our home.  We are so excited to see continued growth in our grape vine, passion fruit, mint, lime, mandarin oranges, kumquat and tomatoes.  This year we have added basil, cucumber and a few other herbs for cooking.  Whether you have a large property or a single pot, I believe that getting in touch with the miracle of nature is good for the soul.  Let me know what you guys are planting and harvesting.  If we have anything that over produces in the next few months I will bring into the office any surplus for you guys to grab! Dessert I am craving: Honey Mama's Cocoa Truffle Bar Are you a chocolate lover but are looking to keep on track with your diet?  This is my new obsession.  Shana (our massage therapist at Aligned Life) kindly gifted me my first Truffle Bar on my birthday last week.  These desserts have five simple ingredients.  They are free of refined sugar, gluten and grains, soy, eggs and dairy.  I know, you are thinking that they taste a little like vomit.  Not so!  These are incredible.  They come in nine flavors.  My favorite so far is "Original Dutch".  Make sure to keep them refrigerated.  Please do not sleep on this one! Quote I am repeating: "The deep roots never doubt spring will come." ~ Marty Rubin In my world it appears that after 12 long months our community has decided it is time to begin anew.   It is time to take all the good things that have happened and adopt them.  It is time for all of the things we have been restricted from and eliminate them.  This is the season of fresh starts, putting yourself out there and realizing your potential.  It is a time for healing, excitement for what is to come and presence for what you are putting your heart towards in the now.  I have heard from so many of our Aligned Life family that despite having struggled to maintain their healthy behaviors, now is the time to recommit to the life they desire.  If you find yourself in this situation, you are not alone and we are here to support you.  Thank

Birthday gift I am requesting: 5-Star Reviews on Google or Yelp Tomorrow (March 10th) I am turning 41 years old!  I am really excited to spend the day with each of you in the office celebrating.  What better way to ring in a new year of life than to spend it with your friends and colleagues.  That being said, I have a favor to ask.  Never before has the power of social proof become so important to the success or failure of small businesses.  This year for my 41st birthday I would greatly appreciate you going to the following links and writing a quick 5-Star review for Aligned Life Wellness!  Your reviews greatly help to reach people that we normally do not have the opportunity to touch.  Thanks for your time and effort in getting the word out about Aligned Life Chiropractic and Wellness! Book I am hearing: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield Do you ever find yourself needing to be creative in order to complete a project or develop a new strategy?  Do you ever feel your mind and body resist every attempt you have to start and follow through with that creative endeavor?  Then you have experienced what Pressfield calls, "Resistance".  Resistance is your mind/ego's way of coming up with any excuse possible for you to step into your true potential.  For strategies and systems that help to work around the "Resistance" check out this amazing book.  If this sounds appealing, but you want more info before buying a copy, check out Pressfield's interview of the Rich Roll podcast here! Quote I am loving: "Fear doesn't go away.  The warrior and the artist live by the same code of necessity, which dictates that the battle must be fought anew each day." ~ Steven Pressfield in The War of Art To deliver creative work to the world regularly is such a difficult endeavor.  This is why the majority of people do not write, publish, video, record, speak, paint, draw or become an entrepreneur.  All of these avenues of self expression require courage and an endless supply of perseverance.  To be a creative is to step into the ring with an endless opponent.  If you desire to find your authentic self, this daily struggle to drill down on what makes you unique is required.  It will not be the easy path but it may allow you to find deep satisfaction and fulfillment.  I believe that we

Video series I am enjoying:  The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday Over the past three weeks I have been steadily consuming content from Ryan Holiday's YouTube channel called "The Daily Stoic".  The Stoics were people who lived during the early 3rd century BC who created a philosophy based upon logic that helps to prepare people for all of life's ups and downs.  For anyone looking to become more resilient, kind, passionate, reasoned and adaptable this is an amazing framework.  Each of Holiday's videos discuss key points taken from Stoic philosophy and applies them to the modern world.  If you are a seeker of life truth's this will be a treasure trove of useful information! New traction equipment I am installing:  Pope 2-way and Wall Unit This past week we received and assembled two new pieces of traction equipment for the office!  My goal with these new units is to eliminate any waiting you may have experienced previously so that you can get the care you need quickly.  As always, we have chosen top of the line products for you to use to ensure comfort, durability and maximum results.  I can't wait for you guys to try out the new gear! Quote I am repeating: "The meaning of life is to find your gift.  The purpose of life is to give it away." ~ Pablo Picasso After tons of thinking about the topics of "meaning" and "purpose" over the past ten years I believe Picasso's statement to be one of the best attempts to describe these complex topics.  This week, I encourage you to think critically about what your gift is and in what creative and impactful ways you can give it away! --- Have a kick ass week everyone! Podcast I am hearing: Rich Roll Podcast with Adam Grant Grant, an organizational psychologist, just launched his new book Think Again in which he discusses how to recognize when we need to relearn and further develop our ideas. Especially in a time period in which seeing both sides of an argument is critical I believe his message is extremely important. In this episode he talks about how many people share their ideas using three different mindsets; the "preacher", the "politician" and the "prosecutor".  When we act like the "preacher" we are so convicted on the topic we are discussing that we lose the ability to be flexible in our arguments.  When attempting to influence others as the "politician" we change our story based upon what we believe the person in front of us would like us to hear.  Lastly, as the "prosecutor" we are more concerned about making our argument right and the other person's wrong.  Ultimately, each of these personas are faulty and lead to a lack of fully understanding a topic.  For more detail of this concept and a bunch more nuggets give this one a listen! Exercise accessory I am using: Mr. Zog's Original Surf Wax As I mentioned to you guys a couple of weeks ago my eldest son has gotten into surfing.  As someone who has never gotten involved in this sport I am eager to learn how to do it myself.  This week, we added a couple of layers of surf wax onto our foam surfboard in order to improve the grip of our feet to the board.  Wow!  Huge difference!  In order to find out how to apply the wax correctly I watch this YouTube video.  Make sure to purchase wax that will match the temperature of the water you intend on surfing in.  As a side note, I absolutely love the smell of the wax.  It takes me right to the beach every time I breath it in! Quote I am repeating: "I see myself as a lighthouse.  If I live my life well, equip myself as an athlete, ensure that I am excelling intellectually, mentally and emotionally I act more like a magnet. A tractor beam that will bring the receptive audience to me." ~Rich Roll on the Adam Grant Episode mentioned previously.  Before this quote in the episode, Roll explains that he does not see himself as the "preacher", the "politician" or the "prosecutor".  He mentions how each of these roles seem to create

Strategy I am utilizing: How To Think About Work by Dan Sullivan Have you ever felt for a short period of time that everything was going your way?  Things were peaceful, rewarding and productive.  Then something happened and everything became difficult, scary and frustrating.  Have you ever wondered what the heck happened?  If you are nodding your head "yes", then take a look at this concept that was presented by Dan Sullivan in regards to the process of doing work.  Sullivan believes that work comes in three stages; rest, planning and action.  When you effectively cycle through these stages and then start over it will allow you to have a continuous feeling of enjoying your work.  If however, you spend too much time in one of these, or maybe you skip one all together, then say goodbye to your sense of inner peace.  Sullivan talks about how in our modern world we skip the steps of rest and planning and focus constantly on action which leads to burn out and lowered quality work.  If you are looking to accomplish something important, identify each of these steps in your journey and then enjoy the process! Audiobook I am hearing: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle After reading Tolle's other bestseller "A New Earth" about one year ago and being profoundly influenced, I decided to dive into this audiobook this week.  The overarching theme discussed is how most people identify with their mind and thoughts.  This erroneous identification leads to often living in the past or living in the future.  Unfortunately, this means we are rarely present.  This lack of presence causes us to label just about everything and justify our behaviors.  All of these layers of thoughts color our experiences and lead us away from the magnificence of the present moment.  Through clever analogies and answering common questions from people he has worked with in person, Tolle has created a very user friendly, albeit challenging, guide to raising your consciousness. Quote I am loving: "Your outer journey may contain a million steps; your inner journey only one: the one you are taking right now." ~ Eckhart Tolle in The Power of Now I believe that a strong spiritual foundation is the bedrock to creating a great life.  Although we may strive for innumerable goals in our personal and professional lives, as Tolle says, there is only one goal when it comes to improving your awareness, to become

Treatment and recovery device I am using: Hypervolt  Last week I began using this device on myself as well as for treatment of our patients in the office.  Hypervolt is a percussion based massage gun that offers three different speeds and four different heads for different parts of the body.  I decided on this brand due to its ability to remain relatively quiet while in use.  I also felt like the product was built with durability in mind as I am hoping to get a lot of usage out of it.  So far I have really enjoyed using it on my calves and achilles after bike rides, traps and shoulders after swims and quads and lower back after running.  I have enjoyed using it because it is something that you can use on yourself and only requires a second set of hands for harder to reach parts of the body.  There are multiple price levels of this device but I went with the one for $349.  If you want to give it a shot it will be available for you to try out at Aligned Life! Audiobook I am hearing: The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy If you are looking to get back on your habits after petering out on your new year's resolutions this may be the perfect read for you.  "The Compound Effect" refers to the use of small but significant behaviors, repeated over time in order to create a massive difference in your outcomes.  This book is short, very simple to understand, has a number of clever analogies and makes a compelling case for a number of different behavior categories including health, wealth building, relationships, goal accomplishment and more.  The best part is that this book I believe comes free with your subscription to Audible! Quote I am repeating: "Small Smart Choices + Consistency + Time = RADICAL DIFFERENCE" ~ Darren Hardy in The Compound Effect This is the equation used by Hardy that helps to illustrate "The Compound Effect".  This week, think about what area of your life you would like to improve.  If you are having trouble thinking of one, think about someone you admire.  Next, identify the behaviors they use regularly and what it would look like if you implemented the same strategy.  Then take action, do it regularly and commit to the long haul.  The key factor in this equation is "Time".  Stay patient, as many of these small behaviors require years,

App I am using: Strava I might be the last person in the endurance world to sign up for this app, but I finally decided it was time to start tracking my training efforts.  With metrics for all the other important areas of my life in place, exercise seems to be the next appropriate category to track regularly.  Strava is an application that allows you to track swimming, biking, running and a number of other endurance sessions.  The best part is that many other apps (including Zwift, my bike training app) will automatically upload the data to Strava automatically.  Strava is also a community that allows you to see (if you have access) other athletes training regiments which can be really inspiring and interesting. Take a look and see if it is something that would help you reach your movement goals for 2021! Exercise equipment I am wearing: Oakley Aro5 Bicycle Helmet When is the last time you checked the manufacturer date on your bicycle helmet?  For me, this weekend, I discovered my helmet was made in June of 2009.  Ugh.  Did you know that helmets should be thrown out every 5 to 10 years according to the Consumer Products Safety Commission?  While standing and chatting with a friend after my bike ride on Saturday I was casually inspecting my helmet when, without much force, a huge piece broke off the front.  This could have been catastrophic if it took place during a crash.  In order to replace the helmet in preparation for next weekends ride I went online to and found a great deal.  Please inspect and update your equipment regularly if needed! Quote I am pondering: "Journaling is like whispering to one's self and listening at the same time." ~Mina Murray This week I picked back up my journaling daily habit.  I have been using the Daily Stoic Journal by Ryan Holiday for the past two years and highly recommend it.  If you are looking for a way to tap into creating a deeper relationship with yourself.  This has been the best tool I have ever used. --- Have a kick ass week everyone! Exercise equipment I am loving: CycleOps Fluid 2 Bike Trainer Darkness, cold and safety concerns were all reasons why I decided it was time to take the plunge into investing in a bicycle trainer.  If you are unfamiliar with this product (like I was until about 6 months ago) it is a device that allows you to ride on your own bicycle, mountain or road bike, but in doors and in place.  Think, the poor man's Peloton.  I like the idea of being able to use my own bike because the fit is correct.  I found this used product on Craigslist for about $100.  My hope is that by being able to get more frequent riding, it will allow me to be more comfortable during longer, more grueling rides.  If you are looking for a way to burn a ton of calories, sweat a bunch and not leave your house, this one might be for you! App I am using: Zwift If riding your bike in your garage for hours on end sounds like a slow painful death, your right!  To the rescue comes Zwift!  An app that can be used on a desktop or mobile device which makes your bike training a game.  Creating your own Avatar, choosing where in the world you would like to ride, unlocking cool jerseys and competing against other people worldwide are all ways to make your experience better.  In order to hook up the aforementioned trainer to a mobile device running Zwift make sure you have a "speed sensor" that has Bluetooth capability such as the one I got from Wahoo.  The sensor connects to your back wheel and wirelessly sends data about your speed to your mobile device.  Zwift is $15 a month and the speed sensor is a one time purchase of $40.  Happy Riding! Quote I am pondering: "Success isn't always about greatness.  It's about consistency.  Consistent hard work leads to success.  Greatness will come." ~Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Creating habits, finding your why, being brave and showing up even when you don't always feel like it are all keys to building the life you desire.  These concepts all contribute to consistency.  By producing the behaviors of the person you desire to become REGULARLY you actually become that individual.  This is the process of transformation that we all seek.  Get clear about who you want to be, identify their core behaviors and commit to consistently taking actions consistent with
